Does your front yard lack any real sense of decision or cohesion? Creating an attractive landscape is important for several reasons: it enhances your home’s curb appeal, ensures proper runoff and drainage, adds color, and ultimately creates a more aesthetically pleasing environment for you and your family.
While achieving an attractive landscape is important in all areas of your yard, it’s particularly important for the front yard. So, what steps can you take to improve your front yard’s landscape?
Use Outdoor Containers
A simple way to improve your front yard’s landscape is to add potted containers. Growing plants and flowers directly in the soil is always beneficial, but potted containers offer a unique style that’s not found elsewhere.
Best of all, you can move them around to different areas. If you’re planning a summer party with guests, for instance, you can carry your potted containers to your backyard. And when the summer comes to a close and the temperatures begin to drop, you can move them indoors for warmth.
Add More Mulch
Even if your flowerbeds currently have mulch, you may want to add a little more.
Over time, mulch will blow away, get eaten by pests or simply decay. When this occurs, there’s less protection for your flowers – and the lack of mulch will also negatively affect your front yard’s landscape.
To fix this problem, simply add a little much in the voided areas where it’s needed most.
Mow the Lawn
Of course, you should also keep your lawn mowed. We’ve all been guilty of neglecting this otherwise basic form of lawn maintenance at some point – and that’s okay.
However, failure to mow your lawn for a month or longer can turn your front yard into a literal jungle. Grass will grow out of control and weeds will begin to encroach.
To prevent this from happening, try to get into the habit of mowing your lawn at least once every one to two weeks.
Green is Good
In addition to mowing your lawn, you should also ensure that it’s green and healthy. The number one cause of brown grass is dehydration. Thankfully, this problem is also easily solved by watering your lawn.
Remove Tree Stumps
Are there dead tree stumps in your front yard? If so, there’s no better time than the present to remove them. Tree stumps are a serious eye sore that will take away from the beauty of your home’s landscape.
The Woodsman Company offers tree planting, tree pruning and shrub trimming, tree removal and stump grinding as well as a tree wellness program.

I couldn’t agree more when you mentioned mowing your lawn regularly as one way to maintain a beautiful looking front yard. It is recommended that you mow your lawn at least every 1-2 weeks. This would ensure that the grass is of perfect height and weeds are not scattered all over. Also, it would avoid any standing water on the ground which could damage your soil and can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes. I would make sure to keep this in mind the next time I do my gardening chores. Thanks.
